Tip 1: Every Curb is a Shoreline
The storm drain is your place on the shore. Everything that goes down a storm drain ends up in a lake, stream or wetland.
You may not live next to a lake, but your curb is a shoreline
Even if you don’t live on a lake or stream, what happens on your property affects one of these water resources. That’s because everyone lives in a watershed. A watershed is the land area that drains into a lake, stream, or river. It includes natural and artificial drainage systems, such as ditches and storm sewers.
Every water body has a watershed that surrounds it and supplies it with water. View the Gleason Lake watershed. It is part of the larger Minnehaha Creek Watershed District.
Find your watershed address here if you live in Plymouth or here if you don’t live in Plymouth, but live in Hennepin County.
